Why Do We Go To New City Fellowship Every Year?

Someone recently asked me why our church goes to New City Fellowship in Chattanooga every year for Martin Luther King’s Holiday.  Simple, it is a bus ride to a joyful worship and fellowship experience and oh yeah, a lot of food.  This trip answers the need for a connection with another PCA church that has a similar vision and like values. Redemption Fellowship aspires to impact the hearts and minds of people with the gospel–to transform people into effective Christians who change their culture for the sake of Christ.  New City Fellowship plans to do the same, as they have proven by having a heart for the transforming, orthodox truth of the scriptures and also a passion to bring wholistic ministry to those in their local community and across the globe.  Like Redemption Fellowship, New City Fellowship tries to “live out” the word of God and not just listen to it and forget it.

I am a New City Fellowship pastor and always will be indebted to that congregation for what they taught me about generosity and patience when dealing with God’s people; and also how to respect and love those who are not yet believers.  I have modeled a lot of my pastoral methods after those of Jim Pickett and Randy Nabors, who are not just great pastors, but great friends.  New City also has awesome leaders whose wisdom we can benefit from.  My prayer is that our elders, deacons, and lay leaders will be as passionate for their work here as the leaders at New City Fellowship.

Redemption Fellowship is a great and generous church with a lot of gifts and I am glad that New City sent me down to Fayetteville almost ten years ago.  I am happy to be here.  However, there are more wars to fight, more demons to cast out, more imaginations to cast down, so we need to seek examples of churches that have been in the fight a little longer than we have and get their advice on “tactics.”  New City Fellowship in Chattanooga is one of those churches.  Please go with us and enjoy the ride.
